Early reading
Decodable readers: 24 picture stories.
Each story is written to the sounds taught up to its step and no further, apart from a few common words that the adult page at the back of each book lists. Step 1 uses s, a, t and p. Step 24 reads longer words with familiar endings. Read the story twice: once slowly for accuracy, once for flow.

Word packs: CVC words and sight words
Two practice packs to use before the readers or beside them. The CVC pack practises short words you can sound out, such as cat, hen, pig, dog and sun. The sight words pack covers the 22 common words that cannot be sounded out at first, such as the, was, said and you. Neither has pictures, so the child reads the word.
CVC words
Short words made of a consonant, a short vowel and a consonant, such as cat, hen, pig, dog and sun. Word families for each of the five short vowels, look-say-cover-write sheets, and sentences to read. No pictures, so the child reads the word and does not guess from the image. Includes a page for the adult and a tracking chart.
